**LAYLA**

(weak smile)

James... I’m scared.

**JAMES**

(firmly)

Hey, look at me. You have nothing to worry about.

*Layla’s eyes fill with tears.*

**LAYLA**

I wanted to do so much... travel, make a difference... Now it feels like time's slipping away.

*James brushes a strand of hair from her face, his expression softening.*

**JAMES**

Baby girl, I know you want to accomplish more in life before it ends. But you don’t have to carry that weight alone.

*He takes a deep breath, gathering his thoughts.*

**JAMES (CONT'D)**

I promise to live for the both of us. I’ll do everything you dreamed of—travel, help others, make a change.

*Layla’s eyes widen slightly, a flicker of hope.*

**LAYLA**

You can’t just...

**JAMES**

(interrupting)

Yes, I can. You’re my heart, Layla. I’ll carry your dreams with me.

*Layla squeezes his hand, tears streaming down her cheeks.*

**LAYLA**

But what about our daughter?

*James nods, his voice steady.*

**JAMES**

Layla will be taken care of. I swear it. She’ll know how amazing her mother is. I’ll tell her every day.

*He leans closer, his eyes glistening.*

**JAMES (CONT'D)**

You have to believe me. I will never let you down, okay?

*Layla nods, her expression softening. She takes a deep breath, looking at James with love and trust.*

**LAYLA**

Promise me you’ll be there for her... for both of us.

**JAMES**

I promise. I’ll be the father you’d be proud of.

*They share a poignant moment, the weight of their love hanging in the air. Layla’s eyes slowly close as she drifts off to sleep.*

**INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY - LATER**

**INT. PARK - DAY - YEARS LATER**

*James is sitting on a bench, a LITTLE GIRL, around 5 years old, playing nearby. She runs up to him, a handful of wildflowers in her tiny hands.*

**LITTLE GIRL**

Daddy! Look!

*He smiles, taking the flowers and brushing his fingers against her cheek.*

**JAMES**

Those are beautiful, baby. Just like your mom.

*He looks out at the skyline, a sense of peace enveloping him.*

**JAMES (CONT'D)**

(softly)

I hope you’re proud of us, Layla.

*The wind rustles gently, as if in response. James embraces his daughter, knowing he’s keeping his promise.*

**JASON (V.O.)**

I know that I have to be much more intelligent. It always comes at a time when people feel like they have to give up on life.

*Tyler rolls his eyes, dismissing Jason’s concerns.*

**TYLER**

Come on, it’s just a way to make some cash. You’re too smart for this!

**JASON**

(raising his voice)

Smart? Selling drugs isn’t smart. It’s a dead end!

*The room falls silent, all eyes on Jason. He takes a deep breath, lowering his voice.*

**JASON (CONT'D)**

If you’re looking over me... (pauses) I promise that I will do my best.

*The atmosphere grows tense as Tyler tries to gauge Jason's sincerity.*

You think you’re better than us now?

**JASON**

No! I just want more for myself... for all of us!

*Jason walks toward the door, determination in his step.*

I’m done with this. I’m signing up for that GED program.

You can laugh all you want, but I refuse to throw my life away.

*He walks to his room, shutting the door behind him.*

*The audience listens intently, inspired by his journey.*

I saw you speaking in there. You really changed, man.

*Jason nods, a slight smile on his face.*

**JASON**

You can too, Tyler. There’s still time to turn things around.

It was always a war between us, and it will never end. Do you think I can’t plan my getaway?

**RICO**

You think you can just leave? How many people you know go to fight for what they believe in?

*Jordan straightens, determination in his eyes.*

More than you think. I’m tired of this life. I want to fight for my future, not just survive another day.
